A hard decision |
|
There is someone at my school who has many critters including mice, which he does not treat well (maybe I will post about that later). He breeds his mice, and there has been atleast 1 extremely abusive incedent with his baby mice. NOw he has decided that he wants to stop breeding, and owning mice, so he is giving them away. Apparently they are resenably docile, so if I adopted them there would not be any mouse socilization to deal with.
I can definately afford caging (rubbermaid) and food (suebees) for them, but I do not know about vet costs, and I am not that knowledgable about mice. With him, however, I KNOW that they get crappy food, and are not taken to the vet. It seems that vet costs are not as big a deal, but if I got mice, I really wanted to get them from a breeder.
If it was just another litter that he was adopting out, I would say no, but he is actually getting rid of his mice. I also do not know how much time there is left for them (he works at Petco )
My mom may jsut say no, and solve everything, but I just wanted to get other opinions.

Well, do you have any idea what he may do to these mice if someone does not take them in? Any idea how many there are?
It is really horrible what some people do with mice (or any animals for that matter). I have a feeling that if someone does not get them from him, he may either dump them, kill them or take them into Petco to be sold as food - would that be accurate?
I would love to help out - but I am all the way in Delaware. Is it possible for you to foster them for a while and try to find homes for them?

Rosie, if you do get them, I may be able to take 2 or 3 of them when you come down to pick up your ratlet. I know that with as many as you'd be getting, 2 or 3 isn't much, but I've already agreed to take Celynny's three girl mice, and I'm trying to keep my numbers down. Just a thought.

Well, I asked my mom, and she said that I could not take them all, but I may be able to adopt a few, and foster some.
Serendipity- That sounds reasonably accurate, and since I am not sure he separates his male abd female mice, he might wind up with more babies to abandon or kill.
