Advice On This Cage? |
|
Lately I've been wanting a bigger cage, it's about that time for a new one! : (yes, every few years a NEED / MUST HAVE a new cage.) I'm thinking of going really big, so far the ones I've been looking at are the new england ferret cage on Martins site or the midwest ferret cage pictured below. The midwest looks nice and roomy, I'd order an extra shelf so there is no fear of them falling from top to bottom. But I'm wondering, is the bar spacing ok, I mean all of my rats are in a marchioro, that spacing is pretty wide, but NONE of them, female included, have EVER gotten through in the whole time I've had the cage. I know it's pretty easy to clean, we used to have that as a kitten cage at my old work, the cage just lifts off the bottom. But to people who have this cage, are you happy with it? It's cheaper than Martins, but I want opinions! Please! Thanks in advance! ;D

I've seen those (the cage in the picture) in my local petshop and thought about getting one. But the bar spacing seems to be too large for small females or young rats. So unless you plan on only keeping full grown rats in it or covering it with hardware cloth, I don't think it would work. :/

Yep, rats kept in here would be full grown!
Oh and here's the other one I'm considering...from Martins

Check out this other topic for a Martin's cages comparison. Hope that helps.

I have read the Martin's cage topic, the ONLY cage big enough for 7 - 8 rats is the ruud. I love the rat cages, they are all so cute, but not big enough and the ruud seems really hard to clean. I just wanted people with the midwest cage to comment on the bar spacing...I pretty much have an idea of what the bar pacing would look like if I saw it in person. But is it hard to clean? etc., thanks for the links though...
