 And then there was one... |

A year and a half ago I took a set of 4 lab mice from Kim's Ark. They were all identical - little black running balls of fur - with GIANT EARS.
A couple days after they arrived I was trying to name them. Since I'd never had mice before I couldn't tell the things apart. They were adorable but completely uninterested in me. One of them was constantly on the move, exploring eeeeeverything. I named her Dora (the Explorer... yes, my niece was 1.5 years old).
Another one ran circles. All the time. ALL. THE. TIME. And like Derek Zoolander she couldn't turn left. So she ran clockwise circles. She freaked OUT if her circles got interrupted. I have some great video footage of her just doing laps of the R670 they shared.
As time passed one of the girls passed... totally unexpected, she was healthy, then she was dead. Several months later another of the girls followed.
Three of the girls got progressively fatter while living here, to where they looked like charred marshmallows. Clockwise remained svelte with her obsessive exercise regime.
Last night the last of my marshmallows passed... again, she was fine the night before, and now she's gone. All that's left is miss Clockwise, rattling around in the R670 alone, turning right. I think I will move her to a smaller cage now, but make sure she still has room to be the nutcase she is.

Being a mouse parent is so hard -- they just don't stay around even as long as rats do. I'm sorry, Emma. I hope Clockwise enjoys her uninterrupted race to the finish.
