Anyone with the Ruud R-699, or Rat Sky Scraper Model... |
|
I just had a few questions...
Both
How bad was the shipping?
How hard is it to clean?
Do you have any pictures of your set-up?
Worth it's weight?
Opinions?
Rat likability scale?
Skyscraper/Ruud:
How many rats do you keep in it? (Especially for Christy!)

I have two Skyscrapers.
The shipping was good. I got them fast, and both in good condition.
Not hard to clean. For me, anyways. I'm able to fit them in to the bathtub, so I just put them in there, and soak them that way.
(That's how the setup was. It has since changed.)
I thought it was worth it.
My rats like the cages. A lot more than their old ones.
I have 6 boys in one, and 5 girls in the other. That might be kind of crowded, however, they get a lot of out time, so I don't think that's a problem.

If you decide to order one, may I suggest you order a second handle? While we don't have a Rudd, we do have one of the R-695's and several 680's, and they come with one handle each. After our second 680, I discovered it was *much* easier to move one of those cage tops around at cleaning time with two handles.
The handles also hold a door open quite well.

I have the R-695 (skyscraper) and love love LOVE it! It's very easy to clean - throw it in the tub (pay the $10 for the flip-top lid - makes cleaning a breeze ) - it actually takes LESS time to clean than my old chin cage did, and it's huge compared to the chin cage.
Right now I have six in it - five girls and one neutered boy. But I did have two more girls in it comfortably up til a few weeks ago when I had to remove Maeve due to lump surgeries and eyelid lacerations and Iris due to strokes. Both those girls are living together in the critter pen cage now.
The shipping and length of wait to Canada was amazing. I can't remember quite what I paid but even the customs taxes were negligable.
Here's my setup, although this is when I first got it and it's changed all around now:

I absolutely LOVE the R695. I've had one for 3 years and another second hand one for going on a year. Best cage I've ever had and they have very little wear and tear to them. They are pretty easy to clean as they are light weight. I usually take mine outside to hose it and scrub it, but on days when I can't do that I use a mixture of peroxide and vinegar that works really well.
Like Victor said, I would also order the extra handles as it does help with moving them. I'm in the process of trying to figure out the best way to combine mine while still being able to have seperate cages if needed. Fun fun! (Pics of mine are in the cage gallery).
