Bank Mouse? (Oh Deer!) |
|
This afternoon at my ATM drive through I found a Deer mouse. Being the animal lover I am, I decided to bring the hurt little fella home. He seems to be doing better already, and I think he will make it. My only question is: I know they are community animals - should I try to pair him with another mouse? Can a Fancy mouse and a Deer mouse co-habitate? I have 20+ fancy's at the moment (large litter from store bought girl added 12 new ones 2 weeks ago...)
Will they fight too much? Can they breed? Will I end up with 20 more little babies?
What have I gotten myself into this time?
Thanks!!!!

So now there is a name for it.
I don't know anything about deer mice, except that I think they are a different species from domestic mice, which were originally bred (I understand) from house mice. That might make it dangerous to introduce your wild mouse to your domestic ones.
My rescued wild mouse is a wood mouse and he lives by himself, because I discovered that male woodmice are solitary.
I found this site last year when I was desperately searching for mouse info. She says she has experience of deer mice, so you might want to e-mail her. http://members.aol.com/Reite/Helpnet.html

I dont know anything about Deer mice but if its a female I would try and put her in with two other (young as possible) females.
Let us know what you end up doing & how it works out.

Yes, and if anyone takes in a stray hare, it can be called "pulling a Daisy."
Wa-ha! I kill me!
