Post bloody urine?
I know that there have been topics covering this before but cant find them. If some one could post them for me that would be great.
Christy has really dark bloody urine. I thought at first that she might be in heat but it is comming from the uretha and not her vagina. There was a drop of blood there when I looked...and a puddle of bloody urine. I know that this is not right and because she is an older rat it could be a sign of kidney problems. I will call the vet monday, any advise? Shaz

*purely from experience* and not fact based knowledge, when Poncho got her super fast tumour, she started bleeding in her urine. It was to do with kidney/ liver failure as she was very bloated and had lots of water retention.. That's where I've experienced it. Sorry it's not a good piece of info. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious. |b x

She has no bloating, and no vocal sounds when I pick her up...she did have just vocal sounds a while back which we went into the vet for and he put her on baytril for a mild myco flare up..she is drinking water good, I am going to check her bladder to see if it is hard or not. Shaz

oh, could be a variety of things. Often bloody discharge from that area can be an indication of a servere Myco infection. It can also be something to do with a kidney issue, tumor or urinary infection (like crystalization). It good that she is on Bayril and drinking. I would definately watch her. I would also check out the Rat Guide for information about this:

Hope this helps and that it is not serious,
Amy

Bloody urine is likely to be a urinary tract infection, though it could be down to crystals/stones in the bladder or kidney, tumours of the urinary tract and so on. Blood from the reproductive tract is likely to be pyometria or endometritis (uterine infections, often myco related) or a uterine tumour. One thing of note is that rats do not bleed or have periods during their heat cycle and it is never normal to see blood from the vagina - the only exception to that would be possibly a drop after very vigorous mating, or a moderate amount during labour and delivery. Otherwise, there is definitely a problem that needs treating.

Encourage her to drink plenty, if the blood is in the urine. She might be suffering some pain or discomfort, especially during or after urination, and diluting the urine with plenty of fluid will help to ease that a bit. Is she straining or peeing more often? Does she have any tenderness in her tummy or pelvic area?

She bladder doesnt feel hard.. and she doesnt seem to mind to much with me touching her there. I didnt see any blood in her urine today but it is really dark yellow..poor old gal. Someone suggested tylenol so I am going to get her on that right away because she has to be in pain somewhere, even if it isnt all the time. would cranberry juice be helpful to her? Shaz
