Breakthrough!!!!! Guess what!! |
|
Thimble!!!!
She let me hand-feed her..... outside the cage.
Last night when we got home late, the meece were up and active. Yoli came out immediately and I made Nitram take her and put her in his joey pocket before he had time to protest. Then we played with her on the bed. She tried to take the chewing gum out of my mouth, and shat on him four times.
I got up to put her back in the drawer (I have the long drawer open on the cage table, and tubes and string and such in there as a playground), and saw that I'd left the cage door open, and Thimble was sitting in the drawer! For a moment I thought all was lost and she would leap and run and I'd never see her again, but soon as I put Yoli in with her, she got all interested in what was going on, and I was able to give her a yogie, AND let her sniff my hand. She never for a moment looked like she wanted to bite, and she took the yogie and sat in a corner of the drawer to eat it. I was trying to figure out how I'd get her back in the cage, but she climbed up the ladder by herself and went back in.
Then ... she pulled a Yoli and went in and out, in and out several times, with the ears all stretched out and devilish like they do. When I finally had to shut the cage door, they both leaped on it and tried to make me open it again, pleading. When I said I couldn't, they went zooming round the cage in a fit of pique and excitement, like normal mice.
How 'bout that! Thimble likes it here.

Wow, that is some progress. Before you know it they'll be taking over the place (or at least the kitchen.)

Now all I need is for Crazy to realize I don't want to cook and eat her. Although last night, she did take a piece of corn from my hand -- through the bars, as I don't have a death wish for my fingers -- and eat it in front of me.

Wow! I missed this one. How wonderful that your wild mousie is starting to trust you
Charlie still runs from me! I'm just the nasty person who cleans his palace and ruins all his paper sculptures.

Thimble still runs from me most of the time, but I do think in a year or two she might like me.
