Cage alterations |
|
Although my little old gals are perfect angels and never mess with the fleece I line my cage floors with, my other "kids" are a different story all together.
No sooner do I clean their cages and line the fleece all pretty, someone feels the need to pull the fleece up into a ball or mess everything up. Nevets tells me they do it for the sole purpose to drive me nuts
I'm thinking about putting litter/bedding on the ground floor but will need to put some kind of guard around the outside of the cage to keep the litter from getting kicked out. The pans in my cages are only 2inches high.
I'd like to use something that is easily removed for clean up, and can be quickly reattched. I was thinking of plexiglass, but would have to think of a way to attach it to the cage. I tried plastic carpet runner once and they chewed on it. I'm a bit of a freak about things looking nice and neat, so I'd like something that doesn't make the cage look....well.....tacky.
Their old pics, but here are what my cages look like:

Any ideas?

You might be able to find some coroplast at a sign store.
If you don't know what coroplast is--you know what corrugated cardboard is, right? Coroplast is corrugated plastic. Lightweight signs are made from it, as are portable Post Office bins.
Let's say the bottom of your cage is 18X24 inches. Get a piece that's 38X34 inches, andm make 4-inch high walls. Score the 'plast to make a box, and you should be able to secure the edges with tape or glue.
Linoleum might work, also.

Debbie, I have the same problem.
I put the fabric so the edges of it are under the bottom of the cage, because if I don't, it's all bundled up in a matter of it. But in doing this, all they do is rip the fabric.
