For two males, you could probably do just fine with a 670 (as long as you don't plan to add any more rats). A 680 or 685 would give them more room to run around, but the 670 would do just fine for a pair.

The R-670 seems small for 2 male rats. I would say the R-680 or R-685 would be minimum, and something like the R-690 would be better, especially if you might add another rat.

I just got a 685 for two of my males and I tend to agree that it's about the minimum. I think the bigger the better with rat cages.

Try checking out the ferret cages Martin's sells also. I found a nice short and squat one for Harry, and the size is fine for both Harry and Mac (though I did attach Mac's cage, because what else would I have done with it?). My boys aren't climbers, and the one inch spacing doesn't bug them. Plus, it's a lot easier to clean for some reason than the tall thin cages that the girls have.

I would say that for two males, go with the R685. Apparently, it's a very good cage (I have an R695 myself with two spoiled rotten hairless girlies in it), and if you want to upgrade later, buy an R695, attach 'em, and you have yourself a Ruud!
Good luck.
EDIT - Oh, and be sure you get powder-coated wire. It will last you much, much longer, as galvanized begins to stink.
