Collapsible Rat Cages |
|
Does anyone know where I can find collapsible rat cages for two rats? They would be in the cage for about three weeks, because I'm bringing them on vacation with me this summer. I know Martin's carries a collapsible cage that would fit two rats, (CC-3018), but it only comes in ferret sized wire, if you want it powdercoated. If you get galvanized it comes in rat sized wire, (but I defintley DON'T want galvanized). Maybe I could cover a powdercoated version with powdercoated wire from Home Depot, but I don't know.
So could I cover the powdercoated CC-3018 with powdercoated wire, or does anyone else know of a different collapsible cage??

You can actually order one from Martins cages with rat sized wire. You just have to request it.

I know, I emailed them, but they said they can only do rat sized wire galvanized.

Well, if they are only going to be in the cage for 3 weeks and you are otherwise going to only use it for travel etc....galvanized isn't so bad really.
You can also get a collapsable cage through Quality...but I'm not sure if they would powder coat it. They can be a bit pricey for their coating though, too. But the cages are very durable and wonderful!

Debbie, thanks for the link-
The wire in 1 inch by 2 inch though, so couldn't rats squeeze through that?

Oh I didn't notice the other cages on that same page. The 1x2 inch wire would only work if you had full grown ratties. A small female "might" be able to squeeze through that.
The one I was referring to was the Stow and Go model. I've looked at that one a few times, but we ended up getting another style of 'travel' cage (it doesn't collapse). The Stow and Go is 1x 1/2 I think or maybe 1x1.

Thanks Debbie,
I emailed Quality Cage, and asked them about the Stow and Go, and if they could powdercoat it and make the wire 1x1/2, they said yes, but they cost would be different. They said they would email me back with the price as soon as they got it.

I have that collapsable carrier from Martin's-- the CC3018 and I had four juvenile males in it for week at the beach last year== it was wonderful!! The spacing is 1x1 if I am not mistaken and it's pvc coated, not powder coated. The boys were only three or four months at the time and couldn't get past their noses with the spacing.
