Ema saw the Rainbow Bridge- Update |
|
My wee old girl, Ema, has not gotten any better. She is VERY skinny, I can feel the knobs in her tail and see her whole spine from her back to her tail. She has changed from pink to a light shade of yellow. Her pee is very dark, wich means she isnt getting enough water. These whole tow weeke Ive fed her every thing healthy and fattening, but just to watch her grow weeker and frailer. At this moment she is sitting in my lap in a towel, brathing very heavely. I watch as she driffts off some were, than jerks back to life and starts to wobble around. Every 5-10 minutes she dose this. She is telling me it is her time to go. I have been bracing myself for her passing all week, I knew it was comming soon. I stroke her head, telling her she can go. But she wakes up, and starts scrammbling around. Its like she dosnt want to leave. Like she wants to hold on to somthing to keep from being tooken away. I think she saw the Rainbow Bridge. Let go Ema, be free.

Your post really made my tear up...
I am so sorry, Kristina. It's hard to let them go.
Ema, at the bridge you will be free, and you can play hard, and breath easy. You have had a good long life, and now it is time to let go, so you don't have to suffer any longer.
for Ema.
for you, Ema, and Snickers.

Please take some comfort in knowing that she didnt go alone as hard as it must have been for you to watch her leave. I am sooooo very sorry for your loss. Snuggle your other lil one she must be missing her too. Shaz

I'm so sorry. I hope that she can pass gently tonight - but if she's still holding on in the morning, perhaps it might be worth contacting a vet and asking them to help her across to the Bridge.... That's always the hardest decision to make, but it's the final, greatest gift of love you can give her.
and for both of you.

Today Ema isnt doing any better. Last night I wanted to be with her, so I made a little crib for her with a box and lots of comfy towels. I fell asleep with her next to me. I woke up later to find she was moving around and getting restless. I knew that she would want to spend some time with Snickers before she passed. I picked her up,and noticed she was oddly cold. I woke up the next morning, my mom saying I had to go to school, so I couldnt be with her during the day. That morning she made a weird gasping sound that scared me and I started wondering if she was in any pain or suffering. She was making the sound more offten, still breathing heavily. Me and my mom discussed it, and we made a sad conclusion to make an appointmet at 9:30 tomarrow morning to be helped across the Rainbow Bridge if she dosnt pass at night. I would hate for her to be suffering her last hours on earth. I will be their right by her side, too.
I have a question about a cage mate for Snickers. I dontknow if I shoud introduce another rattie the same day, or give Snickers a day to grieve. Im afraid she will be very lonley. Do younger rats get along with older rats well?

I am very Sorry to hear about your beloved Ema, sometimes it is the hardest thing we can do to make the decision to let them go. Before Haggis died Erika and I were having the discussion, when is it For US that we are trying to keep her going, and when do you have to say, It is the Far Far better thing that we do now, to let them go. I was there when Lannigan was helped across the bridge, I held her in my hands as the Doctor Gassed her down to sleep, then injected the medication straight into her heart that made it stop. It is hard and I was sniffling and crying as we did this. But I know that the Ratties know when it is time, and that you will always care deeply for them. Take heart in that you are doing what is needed, and that your Ema knows how much you love her.
Tell her that all of the Ratties that have gone before her are waiting and she has a huge Rattie family just waiting for her.
and you.. You have a huge family right here for you, never fear to let us know if we can help you.

Thank you all for your words of kindness and comforting. It helped alot. Saddly, Ema died the night before the I coud take her to the vet. My mom woke me up and told me she had passed during the night. I was happier that she had died a natural death. Since the ground was frozen, my dad had to wait until the morning to bury her, so my mom had made a little tomb for her in a big shoe box. I went down to see her, and she looked so peaceful... it looked like she had passed in her sleep, she was so content looking. My mom said Snickers was covering her up with cloth I had put in their cage the night before. I knew it was important that Snickers had another friend soon, she was a little glum that day. I decided to get Basil, a cute little ratlet who is very healthy and full of energy. She is very curious and freindly (not to mention extremely soft) but a bit touchy. If you pick her up from under her with one hand, she will sqeak,so I have to be extra gentle. I know this willl pass in time because she just arrived here yesterday. Besides the sqeaks of displeasure when Snickers is power-grooming her , they get along just fine, and Snickers seems like a mother to her. She finally gets to be alpha instead of being second bannana with Ema. They are even cuddling up together! Im so happy this is working out. I will post pictures of Basil soon, oh I forgot to mention what marking she has. She looks like a mix of brown, dark brown, and tan with a white tummy and paws. I dont know the name of this type of coloring. Will post pictures soon!

I am Sorry your Ema passed, she has gone to play at the Bridge
Uhm please just a little Caution, by introducing the second Rattie so rapidly you have sort of violated what we prefer as a quarantine procedure of taking a couple weeks not exposing an older rat to a new one just in case it is carrying a disease or Virus. I don't mean to be a bubble burster, and i am glad they seem to be getting along so fine. But keep a close eye on them both if there is even a hint of porimorphin (Sp??) or respiratory things, get them to a vet and on medicines to stop it. Just a note of caution, not trying to alarm you in any way.

P.s. Erika dressed me down for not telling you to take caution in my earlier postings. so say the tribunal of Clan MacHaggis
