Charlie mouse has an obsession with hiding his food. This is a pic of his efforts.
That little orangey brown thing you can just see under the paper is his tiny little food dish. After his cage has been cleaned, he spends the rest of the day building this edifice of paper. He really isn't taking any chances! The other night, I went in to see him before I went to bed and I thought at first he was asleep in his nest. Then a tiny mousie head popped out from under that pile of paper - it was hysterical!

Oh what a busy little mousie that Charlie is! heehee! He's sure to give you some entertainment value with his constructions.

My mice are all obsessed with hiding their water!! Not good!
What do they do in the wild, race up to a river or pond and think "I have to hide this!! Quick, quick grab some leaves to hide the water"? Really, its strange.....Food stashing I understand but water?

He used to put strips of paper towel over/into his water bowl - they would then wick up the water and soak the whole cage! Thankfully, he only does this very occasionally now.
As you say though, it seems odd that they would try to hide water
