getting a few new ones |
|
I am getting TWO new cages!!! Finally I have enough fund built up through auctions and donations and self added and now tax's To get two brand new cages, I was eye balling these ferret cages at petsmart because the bar spaceing is really small, and it has like four levels and the best part is its only 109.00 without tax....however I can not find a pic of this cage on their site to find out wether everyone thinks the ramps are too steep...I am either going with them or a few martins. I want a couple that will hold 3 easily and possibly up to 5 comfortably...So now I have hte funds its the problem of desciding what to go with. How long did everyone have to wait for their martins? Also how hard are they to put together? Thanks in advance Shaz

Well, given the choice, I would definitely go with Martins. I love my 3 cages from Martins, and will be ordering a few more this year.
I recently ordered 2 R-695's from Martins. They were each $114 (powder coated, but no flip top lid). The shipping really isn't too bad - it was about $25 total shipping for my two. I actually sent the payment in on a Monday, and recieved both of my cages on Friday of the same week - and they weren't supposed to have them in until the week after (they were backordered). They are really good about shipping out their cages quickly, and if you have any questions they are extremely friendly and helpful.
As for putting it all together, it really isn't that bad. The levels, ramps and doors come already attached to the separate panels - all you have to do is put the four outside pieces together and attach the levels and ramps to the sides. They do come with instructions, though I didn't even need them.
It took me about 1-2 hours on each cage (and we had company over at the time), and I did use the C-rings provided. But, if you don't want to bother with the C-rings, you can just use zip-ties - they make connecting the pieces together ten times easier. Also, if you ever need to collapse the cage for moving/storage, it is much easier to do so with the zip-ties - you just cut them off and replace them later.

Ditto on the Martin's cages. I recently ordered and R-695 and got it in no time. It was really easy to put together. I used zip ties on mine and that made it super simple. It is also pretty esy to clean since it is light. I just put the whole thing in the tub, scrub it and then turn the shower on to rinse it.

Shaz--the great thing about SuperPet cages is that if the ramps are too steep, you can just order an additional shelf or two (and the accompanying ramps) direct from their website to lower the slope. That's most likely what I'll be doing when/if my girls slow down to the point that they need an "old woman cage."

I am not sure if this is a super pet cage....I honestly dont remember the brand name, but they are powder coated and look more like a chinchilla highrise then a ferret cage, the bar spaceing is little squares and not rectangles..I wish I had a picture of the beast..the martins sounds nice, but I have also heard how hard they are to clean...my bath tub is fairly narrow...when I go back to petsmart I will see if they will let me take a pic of the cage first then I will post it here. Doesn't sound like a SuperPet cage if it has a grid layout...those tend to be bars spaced a half-inch to an inch apart, with a crossbar for support every 4-8 inches. Maybe it's a Marchioro or Coast Cage?

Well, I do clean all of my cages outside. I don't want the chance of little pieces of bedding, food, etc getting stuck in the pipes and clogging my tub up. It has enough problems on its own without my help.
If you do chean yours in the bathtub, check the measurements on the Martins you want to get and measure your tub to see if it will fit.

Isnt there any type of pan that comes with the martins that allows you to clean the cage easier? I thought I saw a seperate little accessory that enabled you to clean the cage by just emptying out the tray. Hmmm .. maybe it was for something else?

I thinkg I know the cage you're talking about. I don't think the ramps are too steep but once the rats get older maybe you could hang a few hammocks up incase they fall?

I just got this cage for $76 dollars. 32 x 20 x 30
I dont have much stuff in there yet...but they sure do seem to love it!
I can easily reach all the way to the back...the ramps and shelves are easily removed and adjusted.
