I know they have this topic in the Rat's Rule forum but I looked and I couldn't find it here! so I was wondering if you all had photos of your cages! I'm getting my Martin's today and I can't wait to fill it up with goodies! I have some Rody Igloos coming in soon too, I hope today! Anyways, show me the piccys! I could use some inspiration! =D

Brattus_Rattus...I want that cage! You said your dad built it I believe...does he happen to have building plans for it? I'd love to try something like that.

Actually I don't have "plans". I printed out pictures and instructions from this site http://www.dapper.com.au/grotto.htm and gave them to my dad. He looked at them and asked if I had to have it the same measurements or could he use the pre-cut/measured wood from Home Depot. I told him that as long as it was easy for him and he could make me ANYTHING, I'd love it. That site (you really should read it all, especially the Naughty Nimbus Narratives) had examples of all kinds of home made cages. So, go wild! My cage was made for a little over $100 dollars and the one I had my dad build for my friend (bigger and more levels) cost just under $200.

I've tried all sorts of toys but my girls get bored of them very quickly. They just like boxes and toilet rolls They seem to have a lot of fun just climbing and running around. Here's where they live:

Here's my cage. This is when I first got it home and set it up.
It looks far cleaner in this pic then it ever has since.
Oh, and I have a lot more toys, a smaller hamock, and everything is rearranged nicer... Plus it's full of ratties now.
And ignore that bag of Nutriphase, it came with the cage.
It's like, 30" long, 24" tall...three levels. Pretty big, and the rats love it.

EvilGummy, I saw that cage at Petsmart and thought it was nice! Of course my 6 wouldn't fit in there, but it IS nice!

Yeah thats where I got it, hehe. 119 dollars... x.x; With my discount it was less, but still...
Heh, and speaking of 6, I actually have 5 in there now. :/ Dig up my thread about the litter I had to foster, and you'll see how 3 babes found their way into the castle my current two were lording over...
So now I am ordering the Rudd..er, Ruud? Am I spelling it right? I forget the name now. The big Martin's cage, hehe. x.x;
I was going to get a second smaller cage and just split them... But after seeing how they all cuddle so cutely in their hamock, my big boys squished against the 3 babes.. Toooo cute! Oi!
I couldn't split them now, hehe... But the babies are nine weeks old now, and packing in the size. And while I see no problem now with their current sizes and the space they have, my big boys are already like, 500 grams at 4 months. And the babes are..well, I need to weigh them at work sometime soon, but I'd say 100 grams maybe..
Once my college refund of 1,000 dollars comes in, in about a week or so, I'll order that palace of a rat abode with over night shipping, and move them on in!
Oh, how many CAN that cage hold? I can't find my cage calculator. :/

Five of my girlies live in this cage:
Their favourite "toy" in there has to be the box of tissues (bottom level, behind the rope). Most of them love pulling the tissues out, and taking them up the ferret tubes to their wee house on the top level (4 litre ice-cream tub). Most of the day there's ferret tubes attached to the middle door, leading to "their" armchair. My 2 other girls are in a Michelangelo cage (two-thirds the height of the Moore) and the set up's similar (it's missing the flat hammock, so that a wheel can fit in, they'd never forgive me if I took their wheel out! )

And here's a picture of Pippin and Jack's cage. Jack is the one in the hammock this time
They were all sleeping, at the time, which is about the only time I can get a good picture:P No little blurs running across the cage

That's Princess, and I have to agree about her being a cutie pie Until 14th of February this year, she and another of my rats, Jasmine, were living in a tiny hamster cage, which was filled with dirty woodshavings and not much more. I was told by their previous owner's grandmother that Princess was friendly, and Jasmine bites, but they are 2 of the most gorgeous rats. Jasmine grooms my hands with her teeth, but so do plenty of other rats. Princess has a head tilt (probably caused by an untreated ear infection in the past), which is really noticeable when she stretches up, and is really skinny (although has put on a bit of weight in the past month) but that doesn't slow her down at all.

Oh, I'm sorry about the head tilt, but it does make a fetching pose.

The thing is, when she sits at the cage door, her head usually doesn't tilt too much. I think she was just being cute in that photo, and she does it so well!

My cages are a boring, uncustomized Martin's R-695 and a boring, uncustomized Terenziani Michelangelo.
None of my rats like any toys whatsoever, but I still put stuff in there so that when people visit, they see that my rats have plenty of things to play with. Ask the rats their opinion of this. They'll say, "Mumma puts all this crap in here that annoys us and gets in our way, to impress other people. Yeah."
They get lots of outside time, though.

Yep, it’s quite big (4 foot long, 5½ feet tall), but I had to build it myself. It’s actually a wardrobe insert (for storing towels on the shelves, shoes along the bottom, and hangers along the top rail) covered in pet cage mesh bought in rolls from Pets At Home (the UK PetSmart, I think). It was very cheap to make overall, only about £40-£50.
