Have any of you ever noticed that rats know who "mommy" is? A lot of times I have them out when friends are over, and they will ask to hold them. Usually I just let them hold Nimbus, because Panda doesn't like strangers at all and tends to get nippy and pee on them.
Even though Nimbus is friendly with just about everyone, he always comes back to me! Once, my one friend was letting him crawl on her shoulder, and I just brushed past, and he came right back to my shoulder!
She was like "hey!" I just smiled and said "He knows who mommy is." Then she kept putting him on her shoulder, and he kept coming back to me. It's really cute, if they are with someone else and see me, they will actually reach out for me.
Last night, I was cleaning their cage, and I was having my friend keep an eye on them, and they kept running away from him to find me. Also, if someone sticks their finger through the cage bars, Panda is sure to nip, but if I do he just simply sniffs.
What do you guys think? Think they know who their "parent" is? Makes me feel kinda special

I agree completely. Our ratties know who their momma and daddy are, and will always come to us. Adrian once jumped off the couch and wandered into a bedroom in our apartment to find us, and when he did climbed onto my lap. Our other boys will do the shoulder swap thing too. Owen is the sweetest rattie, but he really only likes to cuddle with us. That's so cute that they reach out for you   to them both!
**they sound just like my Cuomo and his departed brother Doughty. Even their personalities match up :*)

Oh that is so cute when they do that! Everytime I walk past my husband , Pleakly my bud, tries to climb on him. He gets the heebee jeebees when the rats are on him, But pleakly loves him. Sometimes I cannot stop her, LOL !!!  Today she got on him and he picked her up and handed her to me, then proceded to shudder and said "ewww" ! I smacked him and said she likes you ya dope, she is not a "ewww", she is my buddy.

I had a friend come over tonight who was verrry apprehensive about rats ("The tail freaks me out!" grrrrr...) but when she saw how sweet and attached Hermione is to me, I could see she was quite surprised to see how sweet and loyal rats can be...I love to prove to people how wonderful my little dumplings are! (sorry...I call my ratties my little dumplings)

It scares people when Stanza does that, they think I'm some sort of half rat freak thing. Usually, I happily agree and ask if they want to hold her.
