They come as panels that you assemble with a tool that they send with the cage. and the bottom pan. Some people put them together with zipties instead of the C-rings so that they can break them down easily if they need to move them. They are really super easy to put together though, trust me, I have no handyman skills whatsoever.

As Angela said - they do come apart and are extremely easy to put together. If you are afraid of making mistakes, use zip ties first if you intend to use the C-rings. Either way works. I swear by zip ties.

YES! Zip-ties are the connector of choice for me as well.
I love them - they are very easy to use, inexpensive, and if you ever need to take apart the cage - easily removed.
I use them to build cages often.

If you order a Martin's cage, then yes, they do supply you with plenty of c-rings.

I just got my cage... we used zip ties as well.
My boyfriend said he probably would have killed me for ordering it if we had tried to assemble it solely with the c rings. LOL

I didn't find the c rings too bad, I used both zip ties and c rings on my R-695.

The C-rings go on very quick and easy. Last night, I put together a new Martin's myself, using zipties for the first time. But when I put my two youngters in there, within five minutes one of them had a raw scrape on her ear and it was all bloody!! I don't think it was a bite and I think he accidentally scraped it against a sharp edge of one of the zipties that was inside the cage. I immediately cut off all the zipties and put the c-rings on. So--how do people trim the ziptie ends off? Maybe I was using zipties that were too big--they were making it harder to close the top lid, etc.

Okay Kate, but I was hoping to hear if it was easy to assble them or not from other RP members, well if they were assble it yourself.

The end of the zip tie should be on the outside of the cage... not on the inside. There should be nothing to scratch the rats, it will just be a teeny tiny little circle binding the cage together, with the smooth side on the inside of the cage.
Here is a bad picture, of a zip tie holding together our old cage: (The black zip tie in the middle of the picture) Note how the little end thingie is on the outside of the cage. You do them up as tightly as you can, so the only way to get it off is to cut it off. The rats can't turn them or anything either.

Thanks Mystress. I had all of them facing out like this except for one or two where I couldn't get the door to close over them. The scratch was small, but enough to make me paranoid and switch them all out, but it could have been a scratch from one of the rats too I guess.
