I don't really know anything about mice or hamsters, but I would think that they would react similarly to mice as they do to rats. But that's just a guess! :P

Ummm, do you mean would hamsters go crazy when they smell mice, or would mice go crazy when they smell rats?

I don't know anything about hamsters, but I do know that mice and rats are generally enemies (milkymaiden's moo cow mouse being a rare exception). Normally rats will kill mice. So I imagine that most mice would not react well to the smell of rats.

We had a syrian hamster who lived in the same room as the rats. He was up where the rats couldn't reach, so they didn't come into contact (we never let them out at the same time), but they must have been able to smell each other.

He didn't seem bothered at all by the rats when we brought them home, and ran around quite happily on the sofa as usual, though the ratties had been there too. I kept a 'rat rug' and a 'hamster rug' to put out over the sofa when each animal was out so they had their own scent there. But he was the same laid-back, cuddly little guy as he'd been before the ratties arrived.

So, I don't know about mice, but in my experience hamsters and rats are fine in the same room. But I would never, ever let them meet face-to-face.

Moocow actually LIVES with the rats! It really is amazing. If you do a search for 'Moo' I'm sure you'll find some of his stories. :)

one of our mice escaped and climbed onto the rat cage while we were out (they weren't even in the same room...) needless to say it wasn't very nice when we found him. so just make sure they're secure!!

Both rats and hamsters will usually kill mice. There are exceptions, like Moo, but in general it's probably not worth the risk. My hamsters haven't seemed bothered by the rats as far as I can tell but it's hard to know what's going on in a hamster's head! I keep them in different rooms and would never let them meet.

I have mice and rats living in the same room and neither seem bothered by each other's presence. Of course they never meet face to face. One of my rats have once killed a wild mouse that got in his cage...

I have a lot of hamsters in the same room with 2 rats. They seem to basically ignore the others. I never have them out at the same time either. I have held a few of my hamsters near the rat cage (but never ever near enough to touch) to see reactions and to let them get used to each others smells. The hamsters just ignore the rats, the rats are curious for a few minutes and then go about their business.

Never let any mice/rats/hamsters/other rodents mix, somebody will end up hurt or dead.

They won't go crazy. I had 1 mouse, 3 hamsters and now a rat. I set my wild mouse go though 2 days ago. So now I have 3 hamsters and a rat. I promise they won't care. My rodents are still as happy as ever.

I don't know what you mean by hamsters go crazy when they smell rats...Mine seem fine with each other....and one of the hamster did meet one of the rats face to face....nothing happened...We had just gotten my brother Teddy male hamster, Miles and a black rat name December (WEll Zues at the time when we were told it was a male) and the hamster managed to find his way into the cage with December and they were fine...no fighting or anything...We didn't keep them together of course...but we have rats, mice, and hamsters in the same rooms...they don't seem to mind being around each other....but it just depends on the animals themselves...I have a friend that bought a new rat that has to be kept with mice because she doesn't like being with the other rats...she kept escaping from the rat cage at the pet store and getting into the mice cage and was found curled up with them...I have never tried a rat and a mouse together because they are natural preditors and with my luck something bad would happen....well, guess I'll be going now....

Hmm... I tried introducing a hamster to my rats- BAD IDEA. Fortunately, no one was hurt but there was a big fight. There may be cases where rats and hamsters get along but this is the first I've heard of it. It's not worth the risk.

Just before Xmas, I woke up to find Tokyo, my hamster had escaped from his cage. I was looking for him everywhere and just when I looked up I saw where he had gone. He was in Sammi's, our dumbo rat, cage...munching away on his food. Sammi looked truly terrified that there was "this visitor" in his home. There were no marks on him, so I'm sure Sammi didn't try to attack his guest. So in my experience, my hamsters could are less about rats...and while my mice and hams never came in contact with eachother - besides living in the same room, they didn't seem to care about them at all.

I knew about Hamsters... Yes it will fear of mice/gerbils/rats. And if they are with it. Them will fight to death... Because Hamster are not same of them....
