Post mouse problem
The pet mice I have...my none breeder males, Oreo and hte two boys I introduced to him all have been breathing funny over the weekend. I called my vet and he faxed over a prescription for baytril to the pharmacy here..I wanted some on hand for the ratties if something like pnuemonia pops up again. I called and asked him if it would be fine to use it on the mice for respritory problems he said yes it should be then he had to go for an emergency car verses dog. He was going to call me back with the doseage but hasnt yet. Any ideas on how much to give to three sick lil mice? the biggest one is Oreo...I dont have a scale that will read their weight, still waiting on the delivery of my digital postal scale....grrr. I dont want to mix the baytril until I find out how much to give them. I also gave them a small peice of chocolate which has seemed to help out a little. BTW they are in a completly differant room then the rats. Shaz

I am not sure on the exact dosage (my current mice have not been ill)....but I do remember administering Baytril to a sick rescue, and the dosage was "one drop of Baytril from the syringe". That is literally what I was told, and that is what I gave - and he did show a vast improvement in about 4 days.

I looked online for an exact dosage for mice, but can only find info on rats. I will check with some friends on the RMCA forums to see what they say - but by the time they get back to me, your vet may have already given you the dosages. wink

Glad to hear he got back to you! I was pretty sure that was the correct dosage, but my mind does play tricks on me. Rolling Eyes

Also glad to hear they are already doing better! I'll keep my Crossed Fingers for them. wink

WOW they have improved a huge bunch! I am really happy with the results I thought for sure I was going to loose Oreo since he was the worst off. Not sure what did caused it, I am thinking the switch on my mouse bedding could have...went from aspen to critter care an off brand of carefresh...I was out of the aspen which they were fine with. So I went back to it and they look great now. Shaz

That bedding switch is most likely the cause. I have had both rats and mice that had mild to severe allergy problems to Carefresh and similar beddings. So, I do tend to stay away from it as much as possible and usually have mine on Aspen instead.

I did recently have to switch to Carefresh for about a week - both pet stores near me were completely out of Aspen shavings, and they don't carry Yesterday's News....so I was sort of forced to buy the Carefresh. I switched back as soon as it was back in stock.
