My beloved Miss Mousy |
|
It is with a heavy heart that I write this post today. About two hours ago, I found my very special old lady, Miss Mousy. It appears that she died in her sleep. She was a PEW feeder mouse, and the first pet that my husband and I bought together. She had a litter of 12 babies shortly after coming to us, and has always been happy and healthy. Recently, however, she had started slowing down majorly. She was always so tired, to the point that I moved her from her big cage to a critter trail mini, that way she didn't have to wear herself out going from her paper castle to the water bottle or food dish. She ran in her wheel until about a week ago, always the happy little lady. After she had her litter, she would constantly talk when she was out. It was wonderful to get her out and hear her chatter. It was so funny, whenever my husband would hold her, she would bite him repeatedly, but when I held her, she just travelled around. About two months ago, I realized that Miss Mousy had lost her hearing, and the only way I could get her attention was to knock on her cage or to rub her if she were already awake. As soon as she saw me, she'd always come right over to say hi. She was the friendliest moust I have ever met, and nobody will ever be able to replace her. About a week ago, I noticed that when she breathed, she clicked. I knew it was pneumonia setting in, and it would only be a matter of time. She was so old that I didn't want to subject her to going to the vet. If she were younger, I would have taken her right away. I was glad to see that she went peacefully in her sleep, if she hadn't by tomorrow, I would have had her pts. Miss Mousy was the best mouse ever. Three times in her life with us she was found out of her cage/ball. Once, when I first got her little mouse sized ball, the cats batted the ball and she took off. I heard her squeaking and saw the cats right on her tail. Thankfully my cats don't ever hurt the little ones, but they do let me know when they aren't where they should be. Another time, she escaped when one of the cats bumped her cage. We found her under the fridge that time. The last was probably a week ago. The plug on the cage where the tubes would go came out, and she was in the bathroom. She was always more than happy to go home though, and when out on the floor, she'd come to her people instead of go and hide. She was the perfect mouse, and I am going to miss her so much.
Those of you with mice, please kiss them for me. I'll be doing a small ceremony for her tonight, we'll be decorating the tree for her and lighting candles.
Thanks for reading,
Sondra

Sleep tight, Miss Mousy, breathe easy and play hard.

I'm so sorry, Sondra. Miss Mousy sounds like a special girl who had a wonderful life with you. I'll ask Thimble to run on the wheel for her tonight.
