My latest litter |
|
Well, as everyone here loves baby pics, well, ratty pics in general, I thought it would be nice to make a thread for my latest ratty litter
This morning, my first capped litter was born! To Clancy and Bunny Hop, both silvered black capped, mum being a manx! Brother to sister, in an attempt to produce manx, but that part failed. I had a long hard think about this litter before placing Clancy and Bunny together, as mum is manx and therefore could have had trouble birthing, but I just knew it would work out. They were bred young(5 months), due to the fact that waiting until Bunny was older may have made the risks greater.
Piccy time-
pics were supposed to be smaller and equal in size, but turned out bigger- sorry!
The Daddy, Clancy-
(he isn't skinny, it's the angle and me(and him!) being half asleep when I took the pics)
The Mummy, Bunny Hop-
Babies, 10 minutes old-
And just a random shot, meant to be of the babies, but with mumma sticking her head in to check on her new family-
We have 9 babies, I think 5 males 4 females. Silvered black and hopefully mink, I have all digits crossed that I get something showable from this lot!
Will update as they grow

Dont laugh at my question...I have never heard about showing rats before.
I am very new to the rat world.

ahh yes, Austrialia holds rat shows. So does the UK and *some* parts of the US. There are quarentine issues that you have to follow for everyone's afety but shows can be a very good way to breed a better rat and to get to know your fellow rat owners and breeders- not to mention the PR it brings. Unfortunately here in the US we have such problems with viral and bacterial outbreaks from improper Q practices at shows. Man, I really wish we had a good showing community here.
Congrats rattie_dreams on your babies...hoping there is a nice show ratty or two in there.

Yes, we show ratties(and mice!). I am a member of 2 rodent clubs, and show within both. Although I rarely show the rats, unless I have something exceptional that should at least place, as quite often they come home sneezing from the stress of the trip, not to mention that 2 breeders are known to take sick ratties to shows Showing is a great way to meet fellow ratty lovers, and I have learnt so much from other breeders since I began showing in 2004.
This litter is showing potential One baby seems to be a nice capped, and a couple others appear to have neat head markings. Gee, I forgot how quickly markings on black ratties could be seen!
