What sort of respiratory problem? Wheezing, sneezing, poryphorin? Strange noises? What sort of beeding are you keeping him on?

Either way, the best thing to do is to get him to a vet. They'll be able to pinpoint what his problem is and get him on antibiotics to clear it up.

we have him on antibiotics allready and he just isnt getting better. Sad

What are his symptoms? How old is he? Do you know what antibiotics he's on?

he's on zithromax. im giving him mashed bannanas right now. he looks like he's getting better cause he's eating them w/ no problem.

How long has he been poorly, what symptoms does he have, and how long have you been giving the antibiotics for?

HELP!! MY RAT IS DYING!!! HE HAS A RESPATORY PROBLEM AND HIS FUR IS ALL PUFFED UP!!! HE IS ON AN ANTIBIOTIC CALLED ZITHROMAX. Sad

AGAIN, HEEEELP!!!

First, Calm down. Have you called your vet?

You can put him on a heating pad to keep him warm and try to get some fluids in him with an eyedropper but you really should get him to a vet as soon as possible.

we've got a heating pad under his blankets and we're feeding him some juice & watermixed. we called the vet, and she said 2 give him any kind of food so we gave him some mashed bannanas and also some guacamole and he ate a little bit.

I am sorry to hear your rat is sick. As WolvesRaven suggested, you could cal your vet. At this hour (assuming it is early morning like here), a message should direct you to an emergency number. Depending on the circumstances, your vet might meet you in the office for an emergency visit. Otherwise, you might just have to wait until morning to see your vet.
Keep him comfortable and warm, in the meantime. It might also be helpful to hang out in the bathroom with him and run a hot shower. The steam could help him breathe better.

You've been given good information here for emergenceis - but how does this differ from your previous post? Has he worsened somehow? There isn't really enough detail to tell, but I can't see anything that would suggest that he is any worse than when you previously posted. It might be more helpful if you could clarify exactly what kind of emergency you have, why you say he is dying (and what makes you think that) and so on. It's very hard to know otherwise if he has worsened suddenly despite treatment, if he is gasping or if you simply want general advice on respiratory infections.

You might find it helpful to read over the Netiquette stickies - the more information that you can give, then easier it is for us to answer and help out, and these threads will help you know what kind of information to put into your posts.

my little ratties have had respiratory problems for 7 weeks now.
they have been on double antibiotics for 5 weeks

they have good and bad days but mainly good now....smile

the only advise i have for you is to
1. remain calm....panicking will not help your rat
2. keep your rat warm and out of draughts
3. give your medicine as directed by the vet
4. help your rat breathe easier by providing steam inhalation
5. provide plenty of fluids including fruit juices...dont use milk as it makes mucus/porphorin thicker
6. see your vet for an update check asap

if your rat isnt getting better its time to try a new medication
my girls needed two types of medication before they started to improve

good luck, keep us updated and remember....stay calm....your rat can feel your tension....so stay calm.....smile

we've got him drinking LOTS of water. he seems to be getting better, but is REALLY tired. Hug
