New Fun Time Idea |
|
Last week we purchased a Chinchilla Bath House to let our kids splash around in the water. They were not even close to being interested.
A few days ago, I put yogies and shredded cheese in the Bath House to give them a reason to get used to it. Soozie was the first to brave the new addition to the cage. You know how rats are when food calls?!?
Last night I came up with a new use for the Bath House. I filled it with Packing peanuts and slipped it into the cage. Once again, Soozie was the one to brave the new things in the House. She pulled one out and chomped. She pulled out a second and shredded it. Within 15 minutes everyone was fighting to get to the entrance of the Bath House to get their own little peanut. Then they were fighting to be the one INSIDE the House to sit on the peanuts and chew the heck out of them. They chomped peanuts all night.
Not that it is morning, it looks like someone sprayed the entire cage with peanut pieces. It is reminiscent of people going after bubblewrap. Now I have to vacuum out the cage.
Silly Ratties.

Those packing peanuts are okay for them to chew?
That sounds like a great idea!

Sounds like great fun. My guys use it mainly for stashing. If I fill it with bedding, they just kick it out.
Pheebs, the packing peanuts are ok to use if they're the biodegradable starch ones like cheese puffs - if you drop them in water and they dissolve, they're fine to use. I'd be a bit wary about letting them chew up polystyrene, but the other ones are fine, and harmless if eaten.

Yup, that is what i used -- the polystyrene ones. They chewed and chewed. No one did any eating. We watched for quite a while to make sure. They had a ball.

heheheheh i love when i get a package in the mail! if it's from family, they always use rat-friendly packing. if it's not from family, then i always check the packing matterial first. but i love just tossing my ratties in a box full of peanuts and yogies! man, do they have a blast!
