popcorn.. nature? or nature?! |
|
Sorry guys.. the intention was to post this on Rats Ahoy.. but it just crashed on me as it said my msn wasn't valid. how annoying..
My little monsters are MAD.. Theyre running everywhere the minute i take the lid off the cage.. will this calm down or will it carry on forever? i've never had rat babies before... :s will the mental ones be mental forever?! Also, how do you socialise them..I have them out a lot and let them crawl on me, lick food off of me.. etc is there anything more i should be doing?!
also.. they nibble me. is this normal and will it stop or should i be squeaking at them from this age to discourage biting? likewise with litter training.. from what age is it realistic to litter train.. and is there an age limit? should i do it when they're as young as possible.. i was going to do hero but i figured she has enough stress right now, that i'll wait til all babies are weaned. but will that be too late?
last question..when should i separate them.. i don't want more babies just yet!! i have loads of room so its not a problem.. they'll be three weeks old this weekend.
feel free to move this over to rats ahoy and i'll catch up when i can register.. i donated.. not a lot right now as i don't start work til monday..next month i can do a bit more! it's worth it to share the wealth of info we have here.. it's a shame situations like this push people into making a move.. but there we are.
Thank you again for all your help

Popcorning is normal for baby rats aged from 2-3, sometimes 4, weeks. As is nibbling. They will grow out of it, and I say enjoy it while it lasts- I love popcorning and nibbly ratties Litter training, I have no idea as I have never litter trained any of my rats, they tend to just choose one spot and stick to it. I wean and seperate my babies at 4 weeks, but will sometimes wait until 5 weeks to wean them if they are small babies. Sounds to me like you are doing everything right- congratulations

That's cool.. i've had store rats in the past and i want to make sure that mine are 10 times better handled!! Yes.. i like the nibbling too.. but didn't want to encourage it if it was something they would then assume was ok to do when they have their BIG ratty teeth! No I've never litter trained either.. but I was considering it as my two boys poo everywhere.. so was thinking with so many of them it would help me out a bit if they were more considerate of where they did their business!! Thanks for the reassurance!
