Question about plastic thing on rat cage doors from Martins |
|
Well, I just got a R-690 to replace my R-670... and the 670 has a plastic liner around the door. My new cage did not come with it. Its not all that important to me to have it unless there is some special reason its there that I dont know about...
Does anybody know what they are for?

Were both cages the same coating? Or was the R-690 powder coated, and the R-670 not? I've noticed on some people's cages, that the powdered coated doesn't come with the plastic around the doors, though I don't know the purpose.

The plastic door liners should come with every cage, I would have thought. But -- they're not necessary IMO for any part of the opening but the bottom. They're to cover the cut ends of the door opening, and if you leave (or put) them on the top edge, they collect ick, and somewhat on the sides, too. So I only put them on the bottoms, or sometimes the sides if the cuts are rough there, but they're really not necessary except for the bottoms.

well, I just felt with my hand all the way around the rim of the doors and there seem to be no rough edges so I guess I wont need em! It looks better without them anyway. =)
