I am looking for nice, soft, hammocks for my girls! I wanted to make them on my own, but I don't know how to sew.
I want one with cute backgrounds - like animal backgrounds....

Okay guys, I'm still taking recipes. I don't have enough to justify the cost to print them yet, and no where close to enough photos. If anyone is interested in taking pics, or trying someone else's recipes and taking pics, it would be FABULOUS. Hopefully, we'll have the ones from the old forum soon too Anyone who's willing to help with that will get a hammock for their efforts and credit in the cookbook. Basically, I'm really, really poor right now (the rats are rich though, they have their own account ), so I can't afford to do this all on my own without substantially more content.
I have some fabric now and can make a few hammocks too...I'll be redoing my website and posting pics of the hammocks and such over the next month. I'm still making scarves to raise money for printing costs too. I don't have what you're talking about Wolfpuppy, but I can get something when I get a little more cash.
Also, anyone with layout experience who'd be willing to help, PM me. That part is taking me way too long and I still don't like where I'm getting with things. It's just not professional looking at the moment

Ok.. I have some for you.. More then happy to share.. My little loveables go crazy for this stuff.
1st one-------------------------
Almond Honey Balls
I use these for skinny or older rats that need an extra boost. They put weight on them, so these aren't for plump rats. : )
1 cup finely chopped or ground almonds
1/4 cup finely chopped sunflower seeds (I use sprouted seeds)
1/4 cup oat meal (not instant)
1/4 cup kefir (homemade or from the health food store)
1 TBS ground flax seed
honey (raw is preferred)
Soak oatmeal in the kefir for at least 2 hours. If you can't find kefir, use yogurt diluted with water to the consistency of cream.
Mix all dry ingredients.
Add the soaked oats and mix well.
Add in just enough honey so that it forms a small ball easily. (usually 2-3 TBS)
If it's too wet, just add a bit more ground almonds or oatmeal.
Roll into small balls and give out one a day to rats that need to gain a little weight or rats that are not eating well.
Freeze the excess.
2nd one------------------------------
Holiday Ratty Cookies
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
1 cup milk (or soy milk)
1 tbs baking powder
Flax seed for garnish (optional)
Mix the above ingredients, roll out onto a floured surface, cut into any shape(i used snowflakes cause its the holidays) moisten tops with milk or water and sprinkle with flax seed. bake at 350 for 12 to 15 min until done. cool on wire rack & store in airtight container when cool. can be frozen. The ratties love em!
3rd one-------------------------------
Sweet Treats
Holiday Ratty Cookies
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
1 cup milk (or soy milk)
1 tbs baking powder
Flax seed for garnish (optional)
Mix the above ingredients, roll out onto a floured surface, cut into any shape(i used snowflakes cause its the holidays) moisten tops with milk or water and sprinkle with flax seed. bake at 350 for 12 to 15 min until done. cool on wire rack & store in airtight container when cool. can be frozen. The ratties love em!
From Cinbad4444
Chewy's Turkey Veggie Noodle Bake
1 cup mixed shape whole-wheat noodles
1/2 cup ground turkey breast (chicken brest/thighs will work too)
1/4 cup shredded carrots
1/4 cup shredded butternut squash
1/4 cup chopped broccoli
1/4 cup chopped mixed greens (any kind)
2 eggs
Pre-head oven to 300.
Simmer ground turkey/chicken in water until well done.
Strain the meat, saving the broth and put into a bowl to cool, break the meat into small pieces.
Boil the noodles and carrots in the broth (add more water if needed) until soft....... strain and add the noodles and carrots to the meat.
Add the rest of the veggies into the bowl and mix well.
Add the eggs, mix well and press into a small loaf pan or muffin tins (spray with Pam or other cooking spray so it doesn't stick).
Bake until set (usually 30-45 mins.)
Let it cool and then cut into little squares.
Feed to the rats warm. : )
I then put the squares on a cookie sheet and pop it into the freezer. Once frozen I put them into zip-loc bags. It's then easy to take out a few at a time for the rats. : )
All of my rats LOVE this. : ) It's especially good for pregnant and nursing Moms.
Hope you guys like them.
Eric

One of my favorite recepies is fairly simple. I heat up some oatmeal, then chop up little bits of fruit and vegetables and cheese and such and mix it into the oatmeal and let it cool. All my babies have loved it, and it keeps fairly well when refridgerated in a tupperwear container.

That sounds really cool because you can never find any good rattie things in the shops! But I'm assuming you live in America/UK..? For us Kiwi's its often to expensive converting the dollar/pound then paying for p&p, but for all those how live where you are- it shud be great for them. I rekon sum more people in nz shud consider doing the same, the ratties would love it! |
If you live in Australia or NZ, you can get great ratty hammocks, soft tunnels, ropes, snuggle sacks and other things at www.dapper.com.au. Check it out.

I would LOVE The Rattie Cook Book!
And the hammocks sound like a really really good idea for the "Must Match" People (like myself!)
One Of The Things That I feed My Ratties is
Polenta With Sweet Potatoe Sauce (From http://www.rmca.org)
One slice of polenta 1 inch thick
Two tablespoons sweet potato puree
Chopped spinach
I like this because the sweet potatoe is not only tasty
but full of nutrients for the little ones!
If you want
You can take a carrot and either shave some on top or
put little bite size chunklets
(I prefur the Chunklets, the shavings are easier to choke on!)
Ive also put on pretzal or yoggies or really anything...but the absolutly LOVE the sweet potatoe!!!
Another Thing Are Lettice rolls
I also use the Sweet Potatoe puree on a slice of nicely sized lettice
Then...just like the Polenta...you can put anything inside....Sorta like a taco then close it with a little puree acting like the glue. Spinach is also good to use since its a little more nutritiouse!
Hope everything works out great!!!

i make this fruit sandwich thing for my rats and they love it. all you have to do is get a piece of bread then get some banana and a strawberry. mush up the banana and strawberry and spread it on the bread. fold the bread in half and you have a fruit sandwich! i guess you could use whatever kind of fruit you wanted to.

Why don't you just post the recipies on a website that also contains information on rats? Like have it on rat breeds, illnesses, recommended cages, recepies, stuff like that...I could even make it HTML FREAK!!! Hehehehe

Awww! I'm still working on it guys...I have the summer as soon as I find a job, so hopefully it actually WILL be done for the holidays this year. If you want a hammock give me a color scheme and I'll send you pics of what I have available. I still have some unpacking to do and the sewing machine is part of it, but perhaps with motivation it'll happen faster
