Post She's a very good boy
Thimble might be a boy! Shocked

First off, no worries: deer or field or white-footed wild mice cannot breed with house or domestic/fancy mice. And all this time I thought "house mouse" meant only a wild mouse who stays indoors. Rolling Eyes

I finally got the Deer Mouse Ranch page to work and found the forums there, where as I was reading through, this caught my eye:
"...and (as you point out) male deer mice don't drop their testicles, but some male house mice don't either."
Shocked Shocked Shocked

Then, looking more through the forums, I found this sexing link with these helpful yet confusing pix.

Thimble's organ is certainly as protuberant and elongated as the male's in that pic, but Thimble's faces forward, not backwards! It looks more like a penis than not. Now I have to get pix of his/her underside so as to compare the anal-genital distance, since that seems to be the only way to tell in conjunction with protuberance. Or maybe it just faces forward cos it's erect cos there are girls around??

Also, I'm not 100% sure s/he is a deer mouse. Might possibly be a white-footed mouse. Definitely NOT a house mouse (thank my lucky stars, else they might already have bred if she's a boy!). Anyway, s/he is some sort of Peromyscus, of which it seems there can be 50 or more varieties/families round here.

All that being said, I guess they grow their balls bigger in Scotland! Charlie could never keep those nads retracted. Mr. Green

I'm glad you posted what type she/he is. I noticed she looks a lot chubbier and whiter in her face than my house mouse.

Does your house mouse look like the one in the house mouse link (is there a pic there, I forget)? But on the Deer Mouse Ranch site (my first link, above), there are a couple pix of house mice, and you can see a big difference.

I've changed my sig yet again. Stands for Mice Of Undetermined Sex. Mr. Green Who knows if I'll ever know, considering Crazy acts like a boy (she's THE BOSS), Thimble acts like a girl (remember the screaming and hiding upon seeing the girls for the first time?), and Yoli is a eunuch, just wants to loll around, eat, nip the occasional butt for no reason as it goes by, and watch the other two make fools of themselves.

Oddly (or not so oddly, considering the way the subconscious works), if Thimble is a girly man, we've ended up with the same scenario we had with the R.O.U.S.: a grey girly man, a black & white bossy little thing, and a fat yellow bratty one. :)

Shocked Don't let any Scottish man read that!

But I must admit that I've never had any trouble telling what sex Charlie was after the first couple of weeks. Though I was convinced he was female to begin with. Hmmm, do you think he is abnormal?

He will be very disappointed if he finds out his virtual girlfriend is a boy with his own harem!

Yes, she looks like the photo, just not as filled out yet. She's growing more slowly than I think domestics do. The other female is still twice her length and probably four or five times her mass and I don't think there is more than a couple of weeks in age difference. Even so, the little might is strong enough to flip the bigger girl around in the wheel if she stops running.

LOL, a tiny mighty mouse.

Linda, I'm still only 90% sure that she's a boy. But tell Charlie not to worry: with nads like his, he's king of the hill. Mr. Green
