If it's grey pulp like stuff, it's probably a carefresh knock off. Many rats have issues with that kind of stuff. My rescue girl, Chantel, really does. I use a high quality bedding by Harlan Teklad called Sani-Chips because of her and Yesterday's News in the litter box. It could be why they are sneezing. I would attempt a different type of bedding before consulting a vet. :)

YAAAAY!!! I bought Harlan Teklad Sani-Chips last night. The price was fantastic!!!
Carefresh was just way toooo expensive! The sales guy didnt own a rat himself...butI just had to trust when he said Harlan Teklad was a good company. :)

Hehehe. I swear by them. It's sooooo much easier to shop vac the darn cage bottom without making a mess before scrubbing the pan and cage. LOL

Where can you buy sani-chips? I hate eco-bedding and I am looking forward to switching to it.

The only place I can find them is in the reptile section of Petsmart, and they are incredibly expensive there. It is $11 for a an 11 or 12 ounce bag.

Other than the price, I have heard that they are great thouhg.

Depending on who ya talk to, you can order it direct from a Harlan distribution location or contact a rat group. Maybe Danny of TEK can direct you to a place to get it from?

Okay, thanks. I think there is a yahoo group, so I'll check them, and if there's nothing I'll ask Danny. :)

Awesome. Good luck finding it. If you were in MI, I'd say check out GLFRA. We get it about once every 3-6 months.

Only once every 3-6 months? Shoot. I'd be really interested in trying it to help sneezy-face Bike. I think even the YN is a bit too much for him. It isn't really "poof" dusty, but it does have that sort of residue. Confused I saw the eco-bedding and was interested in giving it a try since it has no dust, but amazing_rat seems to be quite against it, so now I'm disappointed. :)

How big is the amount of sani-chips that you get from the GLFRA? And is it costly?

It's 2.0 cubic feet. It's $6.50 a bag. I have a tub (66gal) full and I've had it for a month and made it through about half and I have 8 cages to clean on a weekly basis. Its very, very compact. I get between 4-5 bags every time we order it and I almost always have a few spare bags laying around. Oh, and if anyone in MI wants to buy 3 bags of carefresh ($8.00/each for 50L bags), let me know. I want it the heck out of my garage. I hate it!!!! (*leers at fiance who bought it*)

Link to GLFRA Harlan order, for those interested and in MI/Toledo, OH area: http://glfra.com/id13.htm
