Yesterday after a 9 day fight with a respiratory problem, Our Much beloved Haggis went to the Rainbow Bridge.

I will miss her, she was our first rat as a couple, I remember how it all happened, how we had gone to the mall in Glenns Falls NY, we entered that small pet store, not thinking we would take anyone home with us, and Erika saw the Nakies in the tank. she seemed like such a little girl in that moment, chanting over and over to me "I want a hairless Rat, I want a hairless Rat, i want a Hairless RAAAAT!!!!" I wasn't really much of a animal person then, feeling the only one i wanted was a dog, and that the cats we had were already too much. we walked away from that store, and as we walked back towards our car on the far side of the mall, we discussed how we couldn't spare the time or funds for another creature. I was against, and Erika for, by the time we got to the middle of the mall I asked Erika to sit with me and seriously discuss this. Eventually she convinced me we should, and I convinced her we shouldn't. I could see how she wanted one so badly so I said lets go back and look again. we did, and there she was our most beloved Haggis, it was fate i think.

We took her home, and got a small cage setup for her, I soon was hooked, Haggis would crawl into the pocket of my flannel shirt and just stay there grooming or sleeping. Slowly and surely that sweet soul turned me from the non animal person, to a full blown Rat lover. soon others would come, our PEW boy Legolas (leg-o-lam), Lannigan and Theoden and Ellisar (elliebelly), The 6 Haunyaks of the Appocalypse (dalriata, Orla, Faunia, Maka, Tir-na-nog, daltia), The boxing buddies (Isuldur and Faramir), The B-5 Boys (Marcus and Byron), the S-boys (Spencer(the rate formerly known as splinter) and Sinclaire), and Finally but not least our two new unamed resuce girls. Through all of this, no matter, Haggis remained my sweet special girl. When We inflicted the 7 Haunyaks on her(7 you ask, well yes Lannigan was a lower level Haunyak), she remaind stately and in control, though the girls would wrestle with each other they all knew without a single fight that Haggis was the Matron of the cage. When her best buddy Lannigan Died, Haggis took it hard, but stayed herself, always herself. Haggis was an amazing Producer of Tumors, She had at least 5 seperate tumor removals done during her way to short life. We jokingly called her our 1500 dollar rattie.

Because of her Tumor Removals, I got to know our local Vet quite well, and in turn Haggis was like the Poster child for Rattie loving. We left a picture of haggis with the Strawberries at the Vets, and everyone who sees it loves it. When they met Haggy in person everyon was amazed how sweet she was and how soft her skin.

Haggis had a good long life, she managed to make it to 2.5 years, I knew every moment with her after 2 years was gravy, but, It still hurts no less to loose her. My deepest regret will be her last moment was spent without me, I had taken Erika to Work and when I got home she had passed.

I cried for a few hours, and I still am tearing as i write all of this to you all. I will Miss Haggis and no rattie will ever be quite like her.

Rest Well My little Haggis, Play with Tir-na-nog and Lannigan at the Bridge and I will see you in all your glory when I meet you there.

Oh no.

I'm am so sorry for your loss, guys. Sweet Haggis held a little niche in my heart with all her frequent lumpiness and I know she fought hard and had a wonderful life with you guys. It's always worse to lose them while you're not with them I find.... but she might have preferred it that way - to save you the pain of seeing her pass. She knew that you both loved her to pieces, and that will have comforted her right up to the end. I hope that your heart can start to heal soon.

Haggis was such a special rat. She had the best possible life with you and all of her other friends.

What a lovely girl. I remember her tumors, they looked painful but she was a trooper. Miss Haggis has had a wonderful life with the both of you.

Oh no. I'm so sorry...Haggis was a beautiful and special girl. I always loved her pictures, and I felt so bad for her, and you and Erika, as she endured all the surgeries.

Her eyes look like gems in that photo. It sounds like she was a true rattie ambassador, which resulted in many other rats having a wonderful life with you and Erika and showing her naked skin off to people who probably had never seen a hairless rat. I'm sorry for your loss ;(

I'm crying...I'm so sorry her time came and she had to leave you guys. She was a beautiful girl with the best human parents she could have hoped for.

what a wonderful story/ a special story / about the life of a special little girl who im sure will never be forgotten

Thankyou for sharing you love for your Ratties, your grief with her passing and an insight to what exactly makes a wonderful rattie owner....smile

I'm so sorry to hear about Haggis. She's easily been one of my favorite not-mine ratties to hear about since I joined. I hope she's standing on strawberries as we speak

Erika and I thank you all for your warmest of wishes. I am going to attempt to create a Web site that showsl all of our ratties at thier best.

I continue to Miss Haggis a lot, I was just yesterday at work , checking on some ratties we have in isolation with wheezing, and I was thinking how I couldn't wait to get home to see haggis, and realizing she just isnt there to see. I miss being able to have her just sit there on my shoulder, perhaps eating a yogie, then the Bruxing which usually was a warning to Daddy that she needed to poop or pee.

I miss her so much.

I hope your hearts heal soon - I know that when I lose them, I forget they're gone, then suddenly the thought pops into my head that they're gone and I choke up... but I try to make myself remember all the good times, the funny or silly things they did, the things that made them special. It hurts like crazy at first because I miss them so much, but gradually it starts to ease off, and one day I find I can think of them and I can smile a little instead of fighting tears. I hope that you and Erika can think of her and smile soon. Hug
