This cage ain't big enough for the both of us!!!! |
|
Can anyone sugest someone in the uk who makes a large size cage for my pair of girlies? The pet shops near me seem to keep offering me large ferret cages which have wire floors (no good for ratties feet)
Or they come out with a cage that has wide bars, I have a very small ratty who can very easily escape through the bars if she wants to

Martin's cages.
Don't have a link. Sorry.
Try a websearch for Martin's cages

Hmmm... Didn't think of that.
Sorry. What about Terrenzi's (or something to the like of that...)?

I don't really have any advice regarding cages in the UK.
I line my cage floors with plastic carpet runner. You can get it anywhere they sell carpet and such. It can be cut down to fit your cage floor and works great. I just pull it out on cage cleaning day and scrub it down in the sink.

I use Terenziani cages. They are fab. I use the wire floors in them, and it's fine for their feet, cos the mesh is so small. Plus it stops them walking about in their own me4ss, which is nice for them. And they have huge hammocks if they want off the floor. They don't seem to notice it though.
How big a cage do you need?? - for how many rats? I may have a Terenziani cage I'm selling.
I also use a Ferplast indoor rabbit cage. It's huge, and looks like a nice size for guinea pigs. The problem is unless you get very creative there isn't a shelf high up for climbing. but I've got mine with hammocks and stuff in it. It's really a retirement cage for older non-climbing rats anyway.

I have a Ferplast Jenny for my four most active little girls - it has a narrow wire spacing. There is a picture of it on my site at http://www.cyber-rats.com/cages.htm
It actually comes with a good selection of ferret tubes, but I took them out and use them in their playpen.

i started off using a large aquarium when the girls were really small, and upgraded to a terenziani michaelangelo when they got a bit older. The floors are wire, but i took the second and bottom wire floors out and replaced the second floor with a hammock. The top perch floor is wire, but i also cover that with towel and just wash the towels every two days, comfy!! I managed to get mine for about £40 from a pet shop in middlesbrough, who ordered it direct for me. The petshops i've been to in leeds charge about £80 for my model cage, (which is outrageous). Try shopping around, or seeing if you can get one direct from the manufacturer! There should be loads of sites on the net.
Good luck!

Hi Robyn
Try www.petcages.co.uk (for critter cages) , or www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk (for ferplast jenny etc) I don't bother to cover the mesh shelves either, I remove the ground level mesh. though Never had a case of bumblefoot, never had a rat trap a foot or toe. But that is down to personal preference. If you want a martins cage then www.companionschoice.co.uk have them, but they are much more expensive here in the uk.
Happy shopping
Julie
