Post Twinky*babies*
Well, I decided to put up some pictures of my mouse Twinky. She is so cute and I want her to have her babies already. The suspense is killing me. hyper I moved her to her own little cage and have been giving her tons of food. So here are the best pics I could get.

She is pregnant? Did you intentionaly breed her, or was she the one who was in the cage with the boy mouse? She is really cute!

I love your bedding btw.

Post RE: Twinky
No I did not breed her, she was with the boys (at the store aparently) as big a she is she had to be preggers before I even got her. I had just thought she was a little chunky them BAM she was huge. Unfortunantly I think that all the females are pregnant.

I have 3 females including Twinky. I don't know when their due dates are. It's also hard to tell if they are really close seeing that they are babies themselves so their bellies aren't going to be as big. They do have big bellies one more than the other so I'm just hopeing that they are just fat.

Update Well last night at 10:53 I went in my room and heard a little squeak only to find that Twinky was having her babies. This morning I was able to look at them while Twinky ate breakfast. There are atleast 11 babies! They are sooooo tiny I can't believe it.

Uh, congrats? That is quite the population explosion. Obviously, you forgot to explain to her that smaller litters are easier.
Good luck with your booming mouse family. And of course, we'll all be expecting picutres.

Post RE: Twinky
Well, when I got home today I checked on her and took a couple of quick pictures while she was eating a yoggie. They aren't great, but it was the best I could do and it looks like there are 12 or 13 not 11. (As you can see in the pics she didn't really like the little box I gave her and decided to make her own place to have them).

They're very cute! Congratulations! Heart
Out of curiosity, should the wheel be stabilized or taken out for mouselets? ScratchHead I know they recommend removing the wheel when there are baby hamsters around so that there aren't any accidental injuries (like if mom decides to run and a baby gets in the way).
Good luck with the jelly beans! :)

Post RE: Twinky
Well, Ratsicles said that she leaves the wheels in all the time and she's hasn't had any problems. So I think it will be fine so far she hasn't even gone in it, just uses it to hide the babies next to it.

Post RE: Twinky
That wheel looks very safe - no spokes or anything to get caught in.
As a separte caution, it's hard to tell how high the water bottle is from the photo, but with the nest so close, make sure the mom doesn't mound nest materials so high that the absorbent materials then wick the water out and soak the cage. I had that happen once in an adult only cage, and the critters were pretty unhappy when I came home, but non the worse for wear. If that happens to babies though, it might not turn out so well. Might be safer to empty that bottle and attach another one away from a corner somewhere.
Thanks for getting those photos up so fast. That is quite the baby pile.

Yeah I thought about that and it is now on the otherside of the cage. :) More pics to come later Mr. Green

Here's the happy momma now:

One of the babies:

A few

and the whole group:

My first count was right there are 11 babies and from the looks of it only 2 are going to have dark eyes.

It is hard to tell from the pics, but she appears to be a Brindle. If so, Brindle is dominant so a lot of the litter could be Brindle. It really depends on who she mated with and what each of them carry.

I had a rescued Brindle girl months back who gave birth to a litter of 13 one week after coming to my home. She had Fawns, Brindles, Blacks, Chocolates and Lilacs in her mix, so it will be interesting to see what colors these guys have.

I have a similar cage to the one you have, and I hated that water bottle! I ended up throwing it away, and replaced it with a regular bottle - and it works so much better now. Also, do be careful about that wheel. It is really close to the nest, and once the babies start moving around it could be a hazard. If mom gets on and starts running, and a little one happens to crawl near or under it, they could get injured easily. See if you can raise it a little bit off the bottom - get the most space between the nesting material and the bottom of the wheel as you can. Just in case - before too long those guys will be roaming everywhere.
