Two very diffrent types of cages, and their owners... |
|
While browsing through the Cage gallery,I couldn't help but notice that there are two types of cage people.
Here they are:
Store bought:
You bought almost everything in your ratties cage.
Scavengers:
I place myself in this category. You spend every waking moment trying to find new things to make, create, alter, for you rat's cage. It is some what of an addiction. You are often seen digging in the neighbors refuge looking for things that can aid you in your quest for building things to keep your ratties intrigued.
The question? Which one are you?

Well, I'd have to admit to falling in category one = Store bought
I have no artistic skill or patience for making hammocks etc I absolutely hate sewing!! lol
(I wish MousiesMom lived next door, her hammocks are brilliant! )
Everything my ratties own from plastic tubes, cardboard tubes, hammocks, hanging toys and chew sticks, hanging objects that you can push fresh fruit and cheerios onto etc are all shop bought! I have travelled all over the place just to find stuff to keep my ratties happy.
Any "easy" ideas are always welcome hehe

Hmm.. I like to mix it up. my cages are store- bought, but I sure do like to make my own hammocks, and fleece tunnels! (and the boys seem to like my own creations better anyway. Especially my nekkid boys, they love the tunnel!!!!)

Yeah, I'm a 'combo' person myself! I have 2 homemade cages and one shop bought one and both are filled with a mixture of DIY stuff and shop-bought stuff.
Either way, it all gets chewed and peed on!

I have a combination as well. The cages are all bought, but all the shelves and ramps in my big aviary cage were home made, and all the cages contain a mix of DIY and shop bought stuff.
My rats are happy to wreck it, whatever the source. They are equal-opportunity chewers.

I'm mostly store bought, except for my hammocks. I "make" those by folding a piece of flannel to fit the cage and safety pinning the corners up. And that is the extent of my crafting abilities

I think we should import her over here for a continual supply of wonderful hammocks. And she would have to bring her rats, of course, so we could steal them....

I never thought of that, but I think you're right! Everything Abita and I have is store-bought, tho I have scavenged some empty cardboard tubes from work.
What about improvisation--where does that fit in? I mean, you convert something for rattie use that wasn't meant to be used for rats (like Bob's hat)?
(It's like there are two kinds of people in this world (or at least the United States): those who dip their fried potatos in ketchup, and those who put the ketchup on their fries.)

Well, I'm a store bought, I'm not very crafty. I buy everything except the obvious little toys, like boxes and such. I'm actually getting really broke right now though, so I think I'll have to change my extravagant ways!

You are often seen digging in the neighbors refuge looking for things |
You mean "neighbors refuse" and not "refuge," right? Because I'm pretty sure pulling things out of your neighbors refuge is against the law.
