Thank you everyone for all your help and support over the last few weeks.. I would have been a very nervous grandma without your words.. Hero is doing sooooo fantastically. I am soooooooooooooo proud of her. Especially as she was only a tiny 7 weeks when she gave birth herself.  She's still a little awkward about being in the cage if I'm handling the tiny mites, but now just tries to move them to a different corner to re-nest if I don't re-cover them by the time she counts to ten!! 
Anyway, they're all big(ger) and cute now.. and furry/fluffy/velvety too.. They're fantastic, much better than having your own children!! hehe!

awwww!! Your baby looks like my baby's twin sister! Same size, colouring, marking, everything! Whats weird though, is when my little Blaze grew into adulthood, she started growing these redish coloured hairs on the back of her neck, just a few of them. Very odd, Ive never seen a rat with more than 2 colour schemes. I saw another black & white capped strip rat that had the exact same redish hairs on their neck, maybe it happens to a lot of them?

Before this doe, I had a doe called Poncho.. You can see on this picture that she started getting red hairs on her back. I have a wild doe who is a chocolate self, but she's started to grow reddish hairs through the brown. She and her sister would make lovely litters if they weren't so nasty.. They're pure bred, but I wouldn't want to carry on their temperament into future litters.. Especially when they're so cute as mismatched colours!!

check out www.photobucket.com and search bored_bel i'll be putting more on this evening!! after i've cleaned her out and ben stops playing halo!! is it me or do cages smell much more quickly when the doe is lactating?!
