water bottles |

this seemed to fit in this section, so this is where i shall ask.
at the moment i have my girls in our living room, which actually isn't the main room of the house for us (we have a weird setup..when you walk in, the first thing you see is our bedroom) and we have a ton of room in our bedroom, which is where i actually want to put the cage. only problem is that my boyfrined gets woken up by the sound of the girls drinking. so my question is this: is there any type of safe water bottle that isn't metal on metal? or at least not so noisy? or is there another alternative i should look into?

If your boyfriend doesn't like noise, don't put the rats in your bedroom. They'll find ways to be loud at 3 in the morning.

wow...not really what i was looking for... the only noise that does bother him is the water bottle, otherwise, he sleeps like a log. and the reason i want the cage in the bedroom is that the living room has surround sound speakers, and i really don't want them to be bugged by those during the day when they are more into sleeping.

All Living Things, and I think Lixit makes water bottles with little spickets instead of the ball bearing. They animal uses their tongue to move the spicket up or down which releases the valve and the water flows. There is little or no noise involved. I had one of these and it was great, I have switched to glass bottles though.

I recently went to the petstore for a lixit waterbottle, but they didn't have it, so I got a flat bac water bottle (16 oz) and they rats can't get water out of it...so I had to put their old waterbottle back in...

That was a great question! I've been wondering the same thing, because every morning at around 6 a.m. my rats go nuts over their water bottle. It interrupts my last half hour of sleep and it aggrevates me and my boyfriend soooo much. Its the only time it annoys me, every other time I hear it it's not so annoying, but I guess sounds are just amplified at 6 a.m.
I could move the cage out of my room but then I'd have to put it all the way downstairs in room on the other side of the apartment, and its just too far away. I like being able to say goodnight to them right before I go to sleep and waking up and being able to talk to them in the mornings while I get dressed, or even letting them out for a few seconds when I'm actually on schedule.
We don't have Petsmart here in Canada, or at least not in my province, but I'll be making a trip to the states next month so I'm definately keeping my eyes open for those water bottle brands!
