What is a red rat? |
|
Hi everyone ...
I have read some articles online that talked about "red" rats. I know about red dillutes like fawn and argente, but what exactly is a *red* rat? Ive done many searches trying to find a photo or something and I cant find anything at all. Do any of you have a red rat, or know where I can find a photo of one? Are they rare? Thanks in advance!

Are you sure these articles weren't referring to RED based rats? As in those that are colour formed by the Red Eye Dilute (hence RED) gene? That's the only thing I can think of.
You have beige - black and RED (aarr) which is beige (obviously), fawn (A/-rr) which is orange - and then you can further combine other dilutes with RED to get other colours.
If you have a link to any of the articles, then do post them so that I can take a look and see what they mean - because we don't have a red colour per se - Fawn is closest but that's definitely orange.

Well, to my knowledge, there is no such thing as a Red rat.
Like LittleWillow, I would suppose they were talking about a rat who is effected by a Red Eye Dilution (RED).

RED isn't a color. It stands for Red Eye Dilute, which will dilute different colors. Black with RED is beige (aarr), blue with RED is platinum (aarrgg), and so on.
