what to clean with after passing on? |
|
Charlie recently passed away. I would like to know what to clean his cage with since I am not sure what he died of. I am almost possitive it was phnuemonia, eventualy I would like to use Charlies cage for other ratties, but I dont want them to get sick with what he had. So what do I use to clean it? Shaz

Bleach in water should get rid of most things. Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly.

I agree with Andy, and then if you let it sit for a week or so (in the garage or outside would be good), there will be no germs left.

Aye - most viruses will be long dead by now (even before bleaching) and the vast majority of bacteria (certainly the ones that are likely to be pathogenic in rats) are certainly not going to last long after bleaching and standing for a while.

Aye - It took me a couple of days to clear out my Charlie's cage too. But I imagine that your Charlie and my Charlie are probably having a ball up there together - these things always seem to come in clusters, don't they?

Yes, best not to rush it because you think you "should." Just do it when you're ready. Save a bit of bedding or a favorite toy... I saved a biscuit Inigo had half-eaten and I still have it.

And there was me thinking it was just me that saved weird items... the bar of chocolate I used to share with Az every night I'd have a square, and he'd have a little nibblet (or two if he asked nicely). I haven't touched or shared with the others since he died. I started a new bar.
