Yard Sale Cages... |
|
Well, my mother-in-law called me a while ago to tell me that one of her next door neighbors was having a yard sale and that there were several cages there for sale (large ones) and so, I rushed over there to see what kinds of cages they were. Yup, several cages indeed... and I ended up bringing home the 3 largest ones. LOL! They're in almost new condition, a couple of them are just missing the plastic attachment pieces that hold the cage sides together but, I can replace those. The largest one I got was a large ferret cage with that green tube that runs from one side along the top of the cage and back into the other side of the cage... what do they run new in the stores? something like $100-200 or something like that? well, I got it for only $12!!! The other 2 cages I got are a bit smaller but, nice sized cages too... both were $7 each. What a steal - 3 Large cages for a total of $26! just can't beat that! right?
It was funny trying to fit all 3 of them in my car... as my trunk is locked shut (gotta get that fixed asap) so, we had to squeeze them all into the inside of my car (toyota camry)! hahahha The guy helped me, we took a couple of them apart to get them to fit but, we made them fit nicely.
So, after I scrub all of them down several times over, some of my ratties will have nice large cages (they already do but, a few of them are wire cages and these that I bought today are powder coated).
I'm not sure about the large one with that green tube though... I think I'll keep the tube removed and just cover the holes on the cage - that tube seems like it would be a pain in the butt to clean over and over again. hah! but, that cage will be for my boys when they get a bit bigger... as they are now, they'd squeeze right thru the bars on it. lol
Hmmmm... I could always get more ratties to fill them instead? hahahah naw, the hubby would shoot me in the head... as I promised him no more ratties for quite a while... already up to 19 of the cute little stinkers. heheh

Ronnie

Oy.... Ronnie, I'm very envious of that ferret cage. I've been hunting for one of those for a while to rehome the A-Team girls and their new roomie into. Lucky you!

Ooh, aren't yard sales great? I also picked up a large cage for 30 dollars at a yard sale about a week ago. I also believe mine is made for ferrets, but it should work just fine for a couple of ratties. It was one of those custom made cages done by a company right here in Maine. I really like the flip top, it's going to be so easy to clean. But it was almost brand new, so I think I saved myself quite a bit of money! But three large cages for $26 bucks, definitely a lucky buy!

I have that ferret cage with the green tubes. It was about $200 new, so you got a GREAT deal! The tube is a pain in the tukus to clean and to assemble/break down so we removed it. The cage is by Super Pet and you and buy "end caps" to block off the holes where the tubes attached. You can also get the chinchilla bath houses and they snap on to the outside of the cage as a great sleeping area. My boys love their manly pink houses.

That's the name brand of it... I just couldn't remember off the top of my head when I made that post - and to think, I just bought that huge/double tall ferret cage with all those levels made by the same brand. Can I say duh?! LOL! I knew this one with the green tube was by the same maker... and I know what you mean about that tube being a pain to clean... that's why I'm not gonna use it either! heheh Thanks for letting me know about the end caps and chinchilla bath houses though... I'm gonna have to go get some of those! Of course, I have some time to set it all up... as the boys aren't big enough to go into that cage yet but, they're growing like weeds so, it won't be long. I'm not sure how they'd feel about pink houses though. ROFL!
I still can't believe what a deal I got on that cage today! It's almost like new! The only wear and tear on it is in the tray corners (spots that just don't seem to want to be cleaned away but, I'm gonna scrub it some more later)... otherwise, the whole thing is basically like new.... all for only $12! I'm so glad my MIL called to tell me about that yard sale! She called me again to see if I bought anything... of course, I told her I got the 3 largest cages that the guy had... and she was surprised at the deal I got too.
It's been a good weekend so far, huh? Well, for my ratties anyway.

Ronnie

If any of you are in Phoenix, AZ I currently have 2 of those Super Pet Cages to get rid of. I put about 10 cages out at my last yard sale and no one came along for them. I would love to clear out the stock around here.

Try using vinegar on those stains on the pan. It works great for my rabbit's litter pan (same material). Let it sit on the spot for several minutes and then use a plastic dish scrubber and elbow grease. It should come out.

Along with the vinegar, try putting some Cream of Tartar on it. It provides bonding for the stains material. It should come out fine.
BTW: Still jealous!

Cream of Tartar...Interesting. I usually just use baking soda and white vinegar. Good Luck!
